Bob Breen Stick & Knife Seminar, 10 Sept 2000, Ealing DSD

Another superb seminar organised by Gideon Hajioff (Senior Chief Instructor and Association Chairman) & Michael Monty (Chief Instructor & Association Technical Officer), inviting the well respected martial artist Bob Breen (Master in Kali Escrima & Jeet Kune Do) to present a Stick and Knife seminar.

Mr Breen (on the right) demonstrates a parry technique.

With over 70 students attending from DSD Schools from London, Birmingham, Essex and Hertfordshire Mr Breen started by looking at the directions of attack with a stick. He then concentrated one one attack and the various counters.

The noise of Escrima sticks clashing or hitting the ground was unusual to our "open hands" style of training. After working with both partners practising with sticks we moved onto a set of empty hand parry counters.

Mr Breen mixed demonstrations of techniques with his assistant and DSD students and gave individual instruction throughout the afternoon. This closeness of instruction was much appreciated by all Click for Larger Image
The second half of the seminar was based on knife attacks and parries. Following the stick session this made learning the smaller knife movements and defence easier as well as logical. Click for Larger Image

Mr Breen had worked with Mr Hajioff & Mr Monty to organise the seminar and techniques to fit within a Dynamic Self Defence framework with an emphasis on basic "street practical" techniques.

Each student attending was given a seminar booklet produced by Mr Monty, DSDA Technical Officer for further practice & revision.
