FAQ

Questions & Answers in this section are about the classes / disciplines:

NEWCOMER: I'M NEW TO THIS TYPE OF TRAINING, WHAT DO YOU RECOMMEND?

You are most welcome to train in any of our disciplines.

The classes labelled Beginner are more specifically geared to Beginners (Krav Maga + Muay Thai), but the rest of the classes are for all levels (unless they are labelled Advanced) and the instructors will always ensure you work according to your level.

You can train in:

- self defence (Krav Maga)

- combat sports: Boxing, Muay Thai, MMA and

- martial arts: Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (grappling art - we are hoping to bring this back to our timetable in future) and Capoeira (combines martial arts, acrobatics and music).

Whilst all our classes help build various aspects of fitness, we also have specific fitness classes for cardio, conditioning and Low Pressure Fitness (reprogrammes and tones your core, improves breathing capacity, postural issues, back and pelvic dysfunction).

Adults: 1 trial class at £5 + get £5 back when you join (ask for promo code).

Children: £5 per trial class (can try more than one discipline).

DO I NEED TO HAVE PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE IN SELF DEFENCE?

No - there is no experience necessary to train with us. We will help you build your skill, fitness and technical ability if you are new to training. If you are experienced then we will help you to continue to progress.

DISCIPLINES/CLASSES - PLEASE EXPLAIN THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THEM

We bring you a mix of disciplines which complement each other - you can focus on one or cross train to benefit the most from our Academy:

KRAV MAGA = practical self defence includes strikes/padwork, blocks/sparring, weapons, grabs/chokes, floorwork, fitness – all from a self defence aspect. Taught on a band (belt) level system.

MUAY THAI = combat sport includes punches, kicks, elbow & knee strikes, clinches, take downs - padwork, combinations that are tested in competition, sparring at advanced level.

BOXING = combat sport includes punches, blocks, combinations that build speed, reaction and effective footwork. Plenty of partner padding, hitting punchbags, sparring according to ability, fitness.

CAPOEIRA = where martial arts meets acrobatics and music. A self defence originally created by slaves that's made to look like a dance. Adapted to all levels and abilities. Includes strikes, take downs, kicks, flips, partner play, traditional instruments and songs that create the most amazing atmosphere as you train.

MMA = Mixed Martials Arts = a fusion of various combat sports including Muay Thai, Judo, Wrestling, Boxing and more - learn to fight both standing and on the ground, great for building fitness & stamina.

FITNESS:

Cardio Conditioning Fitness = total body workout and movement to music including stretching & toning exercises using body weight, free weights and padwork.

Cardio Combat Fitness = total body workout to music including striking combinations, exercises using body weight, free weights, skipping, padwork.

Low Pressure Fitness = special breathing technique with movement to reprogramme your core, reduce waist size, increase breathing capacity (great for martial art/combat training) and improve pelvic and spinal dysfunction.

Stretch & Move = learn to move in ways your body is naturally designed to via stretches and exercises to strengthen your posture, stability and range of motion that will help your everyday activities.
