MUAY THAI

Muay Thai is the perfect addition to your self defence skill set. An ancient martial art form developed hundreds of years ago in Siam, now known as Thailand, it became widespread internationally in the twentieth century, when practitioners defeated notable practitioners of other martial arts.

It is sometimes known as “the art of eight limbs”, because it makes use of punches, kicks, elbows and knee strikes, thus using eight “points of contact”. It uses the entire body to defend against attacks.

This military unarmed combat elite self-defence system is used by the Thai Special Forces and by millions of martial arts enthusiasts around the world.

The conditioning we build, combined with the spirit and perseverance developed in our classes, helps to build self-confidence and a stronger body. We love sharing our knowledge, and we welcome beginners of all ages and fitness levels to come share our passion.

SAM WILSON

I started training in Muay Thai when I was 16yrs old in Vale Farm Leisure Centre. My parents encouraged me to try it out and I fell in love with the sport.

Alongside my studies, I was into athletics – high jump and triple jump, and competed for the county – coming 2nd in a high jump competition and 3rd in the long jump.

Training outside in the winter wasn’t my cup of tea, hence the attraction to Muay Thai indoors.

My first coach was a junior champion Boxer – he started Minator Gym – and put much emphasis on the importance of Boxing as an initial training element.

Known as the ‘Gym of Champions’,  ‘good hands’ was the key to developing the Minator style of fighting.

After 10 years of consistent training and competing, I moved to Team Tieu in central London and started coaching and personal training, and would be sent on regular boxing courses, eg Mayweather Boxing, Ricky Hatton Boxing for instructor training development. I taught Boxing at Gymbox for 10 years.

After 20 years of competing, I moved into full time teaching and coaching. Being able to give back to the next generation is my new passion.

I’m experienced in training all levels from newcomers to professional fighters – and will help any student reach their training goals.

Outside the ring, you’ll never see me without my mountain bike.
